Welcome to an elite club! I'm getting more calls lately from women (and even a few men like myself) who are or have been stalked. Even their computer security has been breached. Some had their friends, fellow employees and family harassed, causing them enormous anxiety, pain and grief. Most are being stalked by ex-boyfriends or husbands. Occasionally they are stalked by a fellow employee where they work. Many stalkers find their victims on the Internet. I too was briefly "stalked" by a woman I met online a few years ago that had multiple personality disorder (which she failed to tell me). I had to change phone numbers, email addresses, instant messenger accounts, etc. What a pain!
There seems to be little the police can do to stop them - especially when there is no violence involved (yet). Unfortunately many of these situations do become dangerous. It's time for YOU to take control of the situation.
In response to help, I have assembled many downloads here that can help protect your computer from a stalker. Pest Patrol does a great job in detecting and removing keyloggers, remote administrators (RAT's) and other malware. BlackICE Defender offers the ultimate in personal internet/computer security. Use MailWasher Pro to "blacklist" their email so you don't have to change your email addresses. It will bounce back to them & they'll think your email has changed. You can even set it so you never see it. It's also great for fighting the spam some "ex's" sign you up for! Arm yourself with the tools you need to fight back.
I've also researched some of the best books and video available today on the subject of staler awareness, personal protection and self-defense. Remember that only you can take control of the situation. Your stalker WANTS you to be afraid. Arm yourself with the tools and knowledge you need to protect yourself today, and lose the fear.
A guide for those coping with repeated harassment, February 7, 2004 Reviewer: Midwest Book Review "Detective Mike Proctor teaches readers the basics of defending themselves in How To Stop A Stalker, a guide for those coping with repeated harassment by potentially violent individuals. From why stalkers follow their victims; to what to do if one is being stalked; the collection of evidence; getting the justice system on one's side; what to do in court, and so much more, How To Stop A Stalker is an absolute "must-read", and bears the very highest recommendation for men and women alike -- because statistical data indicates 1 out of 12 women and 1 out of every 45 men will be stalked in their lifetime. In our troubled times of having to also deal with the threats presented by domestic and foreign terrorism, How To Stop A Stalker is even more relevant to the lives of ordinary citizens and could well save your life and the lives of those dear to you."
This is not your father's Karate! Get this book! Reviewer: Hollis Coleman from Brooklyn, New York "I've been training and teaching Shotokan Karate for nearly 25 years and over the years I've accumulated a sizable collection of books based on various martial disciplines. Many of them talk about "real fighting", but most of them are pretty much the same, emphasizing flashy "cool looking" moves over common sense techniques and skill development. So at first glance at the book's title I was skeptical. However, after reading Attack Proof: The Ultimate Guide to Personal Protection, I enthusiastically recommend it! While I have a lot of classical training under my belt I also know that the streets of Brooklyn are anything but "classical." The book Attack Proof offers both the martial artist and lay person a bare-bones methodology to real self-defense and street survival skills. The author's base their techniques on sound principles of fighting found in most martial arts systems, and support them with examples of real world applications and experiences. I was so impressed with Attack Proof's practical approach to not only fighting, but to street awareness as well, that I bought copies for my sons, both who are trained in Shotokan and one who is a "Rookie" cop with the NYPD. Whether you're a seasoned martial artist, martial arts instructor or just someone who wants to learn enough to protect yourself. You'll find that the techniques and principles taught are understandable and easy to grasp, but most important of all, effective!"
Editorial Reviews From Amazon.com "In September 1989, Doreen Orion was just beginning her psychiatric practice when one of her female patients developed an erotomanic obsession with her. Over the next eight years, this patient skulked outside of Orion's house and at her workplace, leaving bizarre messages, watching her, and making her unwelcome presence known in virtually every aspect of her life. In I Know You Really Love Me, Orion recounts her legal and emotional struggles as she tried to take control of the situation."
"As a psychiatrist, Orion has fascinating insights into the condition that causes some people to obsess inappropriately over others. She also describes compellingly the feelings of helplessness and fear that stalking causes its victims--but always with the compassion and understanding of someone who works with the mentally ill. Her unique perspective as both a victim and a professional makes I Know You Really Love Me not just a blow-by-blow account of a stalking, but a practical guide to understanding, avoiding, and discouraging stalkers." --Lisa Higgins
Excellent book for women and men, January 28, 2004 Reviewer: Craig Stephans
"I ordered and read this book after having a daughter. I wanted to learn how I can help her grow up strong and able to fend for herself and not become a victim of any sorts.
For the most part this book was a revelation to me about the reality women face...a reality of danger, threats, bullying, discrimination, etc. It made me put myself in the shoes of the women walking to her car in a dark parking lot who fears for her safety and life due to potential dangers. Ms. Snortland shows how fear is often present in daily situations women encounter.
She also indicates changes in attitude and lessons in defense that can improve a women's posture in the world. It has encouraged me to sign my daughter up for self-defense classes as soon as it is age-appropriate. I garnered a much better understanding of many societal attitudes my daughter will face as she grows up. It will really help me be a better father to her."
